Hello! My name is Beth, and I am a first year PhD student in English Literature at the University of Sussex.
My research focuses on the concept of romantic androgyny within the works of women writers from 1780-1830, including Mary Wollstonecraft, Frances Burney and Ann Radcliffe. I am very interested in feminist scholarship – particularly that of Hélène Cixous and Judith Butler – and like to utilise and experiment with different theoretical and philosophical concepts in my work.
I am particularly fascinated by Romantic and Victorian literature, and I also enjoy engaging with ideas around class and capitalism, as well as gender and sexuality, within women’s writing.
Outside of academia, I am a fully qualified secondary English teacher, and education remains something I am particularly passionate about and wish to remain engaged in throughout my career.
